Shield
The polestar on the blue symbolizes the North Star in Alaska's night skies, always present as a guide and reference point. The wavy bar represents the pulsing veil of the aurora borealis, the colorful phenomena of the Northland. The stylized eagle's head, a native Alaskan device proclaiming the owner's legendary descent, embodies the unit's support mission to the scout battalions. The eagle is swift and has penetrating eyesight and exceptional hearing; it also warns of approaching enemies. The chevron division of the shield symbolizes support, strength, and with the color white, also alludes to Mt. Denali and Alaska's abundant snow fields and glaciers. The eagle, an honored guardian spirit, represents the heritage of the Alaska Army National Guard.
